SSC
The SSC recruits for a huge range of Group B and Group C posts across the ministries and departments of the Government of India — the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) exam being the best known. For many graduates, it is the most direct route to a secure central-government job.
Who can appear
Graduates, within an age range that varies by post (broadly 18 to 32). Selection runs across tiered computer-based tests, and for some posts a skill or physical test.

The national picture
The scale is enormous: the SSC CGL 2024 cycle alone notified 17,727 posts, and each cycle draws lakhs of graduate applicants — so while there are many jobs, the competition for each is intense.
